Since the birth of the search engine it was clear that having your site show up in the highest positions in the search engine result pages (SERPs), brings in a lot of targeted visitors and with that more sales.

People will take advantage of things that benefit their business, so soon a new service was born: Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

SEO consultants, like my self, always have to stay up to date with the always changing algorithms of the search engines. These algorithms are kept secret because the success of a search engine depends on it. If the algorithms would be public, there would be no competition possible between search engines. They all want to be the best, and therefore keep their algorithms secret.

However, it is possible to investigate what makes a site rank high. SEO consultants investigate what makes a site rank high and use this knowledge to optimize a web site for the search engines. Unlike the search engines, SEO consultants do not keep their knowledge a secret. There are various reasons for this, but the main reason is that sharing knowledge will increase your own knowledge. Besides that, it does not hurt our own business to share the knowledge we have. SEO is not science; the human factor is pretty big. Also, most web masters do not have the time to learn all about SEO.

So how do we share our knowledge?

There are various ways. One of the most interesting ways, also for you, is to participate in forums about SEO. 2 of the forums I like a lot and in which I participate myself as well are IhelpYouServices and High Rankings Forum.
